On Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at 1720 hours the Coatesville Fire Department along with the Modena, and Veterans Administration Fire Departments were dispatched to assist Thorndale on a reported house fire in 1400 block of Walnut Street.
Ladder 43 and Ambulance 41-1 along with Assistant 38 (D'Amico) all made the response at 17:22 and were advised by the Chester County 911 Center that the reporting party had a fire in the house and disconnected.
Lieutenant 43A (Carpenter) arrived on location and reported smoke showing on a single story frame dwelling. Responding Chief Officers from Station 38 requested the working fire dispatch based upon the report. Ladder 43 was the first arriving suppression piece and quickly deployed a 1-3/4" hand line to the front door. Coatesville crews worked on extinguishing the fire while the next arriving engine, which was from the Thorndale Fire Company was laying a 5 in. supply line from the nearest fire hydrant.
Coatesville and Thorndale crews then worked together to perform salvage and overhaul operations. The fire was contained to 1 room with moderate smoke damage throughout the house. Assistant 38 (D'Amico) assumed "Walnut Street Command" while the 38 Lieutenant assumed the role of "Operations" for the fire.
Coatesville and Thorndale units cleared the scene at 18:53.
